While a gold base has always been the primary helmet color for the team, white took the place of its secondary color in 2019.
ASU moved to just those two helmet options as helmet technology has improved for player safety and prices for new helmets have increased, according to DevilsDigest.com.
Instead of transitioning to another monochrome option such as gray or black, the team is opting for a new technology that features the base maroon along with a hint of gold.
The gold specks come into play when light hits the candy finish and reflects into a second color off the helmet.
The helmets could be used for the Maroon Monsoon game on Oct. 8 against Stanford.
