The Arizona Diamondbacks have called up minor league slugger Seth Beer on Friday in preparation for a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.

Beer, who was with Triple-A Reno, will join the team on the road and could make his MLB debut this weekend.

The first baseman and outfielder known for his bat is the 12th-ranked prospect in the Diamondbacks’ farm system, according to MLB Pipeline.

Arizona had room on its roster after releasing infielder Drew Ellis on Thursday. He was optioned to Reno.

Beer, 24, was a first-round pick by the Houston Astros in 2018 has amassed 16 home runs, 33 doubles and 59 RBIs in 100 games in Triple-A this season.

He’s slashing .287/.398/.511.

The D-backs acquired Beer in the 2019 blockbuster that sent ace Zack Greinke to the Astros for four prospects. Infielder Josh Rojas and pitchers J.B. Bukauskas and Corbin Martin were also part of the package sent to Arizona in that deal.

Beer is the last of those prospects to reach the majors.

Arizona visits Seattle at 7:10 p.m. MST on Friday. Tune in on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
