Arizona State football head coach Herm Edwards anticipates having a full backfield this week on the road against No. 23 BYU.
Sophomore DeaMonte Trayanum missed last Saturday’s game against UNLV (ankle), and during the Sun Devils’ 37-10 victory at home, redshirt freshman running back Daniyel Ngata grimaced while holding his hand. Edwards told the media afterward that Ngata dislocated his thumb.
“They’re all available as far I know,” Edwards said in his press conference on Monday. “Somebody could have a tummy ache tomorrow, might not show up, but right now they’re all available.”
Edwards also gave injury updates on several other players.
Senior cornerback Timarcus Davis missed the first two games, but is ready to go for Week 3. Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott missed Saturday’s game after playing in Week 1, but he will also be back this week.
Both defenders were reportedly at practice on Tuesday.
Redshirt freshman wide receiver Elijhah Badger has yet to make his ASU debut after sitting out last season and missing the first two games of 2021.
“I’m hoping he’s going to be able to participate,” Edwards said. “He’s got to get in some type of football stamina, but he has been running.
“He’s a talented player. He brings another wide receiver that hasn’t played a lot but is talented, can make the contested catch, good after the catch.”
Badger was a unanimous 4-star recruit when he committed to ASU.
Finally, junior center Dohnovan West got banged up on Saturday, but offensive coordinator Zak Hill told the media on Tuesday that the team is not worried about him going forward.
The Sun Devils face the Cougars at 7:15 p.m. MST on Saturday. The game will air on ESPN and on the radio at 620 AM.
