Arizona Cardinals kicker Matt Prater showed off his right leg in the winding seconds of the first half against the Minnesota Vikings, nailing a 62-yard field goal to set the Cardinals’ franchise record.

The unsung hero of the field goal was Cardinals rookie wideout Rondale Moore, who made a few Vikings miss with 10 seconds left on a reception for a gain of 18 yards, getting out of bounds with one second left.

The previous top mark was a 61-yarder made by Jay Feely in 2012.

Prater signed with the Cardinals in the offseason to solve the team’s kicking situation and it’s paying off early in 2021. He went 1-for-2 in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, hitting from 34 yards away.

The 62-yarder marks the second longest in Prater’s career, behind his NFL record 64-yarder in 2013 as a member of the Denver Broncos. That kick too came off Prater’s right foot as time was expiring in the first half.

It becomes the 18th time a kicker has made a field goal over 60 yards and Prater becomes the only player to have two makes over 60 yards in NFL history, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Cardinals beat the Vikings 34-33.
