The Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday placed shortstop Nick Ahmed on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation and called up infield prospect Geraldo Perdomo.
Ahmed hasn’t played since Sept. 17 and the move is retroactive to Thursday.
The 31-year-old, playing in his eighth season in the desert, is batting .221 with five home runs and 38 RBIs in 129 games this season.
Perdomo, meanwhile, is up for his second stint with the D-backs this season after his big league debut on April 3.
The team’s No. 9 overall prospect according to MLB.com, Perdomo is hitting .238 with six home runs and 35 RBIs in 85 games between the Double-A affiliate Amarillo Sod Poodles and Triple-A affiliate Reno Aces.
In 10 at-bats at the major league level this season, Perdomo has one hit and has scored a run.
It’s been a down season so far for the 21-year-old after culminating a batting average of .322 in 2018 and .275 in 2019 before the 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The D-backs finish up their three-game series Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at 1:10 p.m. All the action can be heard on 98.7 FM HD-2 and ESPN 620 AM.
