Coyotes defeat Ducks after big second period in preseason game

The Arizona Coyotes won their second preseason game 4-1 over the Anaheim Ducks in Southern California on Wednesday night.

Left winger Lawson Crouse scored two goals to lead the way.

Arizona is now 2-0 in preseason games, their next of which is on Saturday against Anaheim once again.

Like in Monday’s 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings, Arizona trailed 1-0 on Wednesday. Ducks center Danny O’Regan scored off of a rebound in the opening period.

The Coyotes then scored three goals in the second. Crouse put in the first from an assist by right winger Clayton Keller.

Defenseman Cam Dineen followed with the first power-play goal of the preseason for Arizona.

Then, with under two minutes remaining in the period, defenseman Victor Söderström scored after some terrific passing. Wingers Hudson Fasching and Ben McCartney assisted that third goal.

Crouse scored the sole third-period goal off of a Ducks turnover.

For the second straight game, the Coyotes were outshot, this time 30-25. Ivan Prosvetov and Karel Vejmelka combined for 29 saves in net.

An area where Arizona struggled was penalties, as it committed eight for 30 minutes in the box. The Coyotes allowed no power play goals, though.

Crouse was the first star of the night with O’Regan second and Keller third.

Saturday’s game will start at 3 p.m. at Gila River Arena. It will air on KTAR News 92.3 FM.
