Trevor Cahill’s third rehab start for the Reno Aces may have been his last.
The Arizona Diamondback right-hander pitched seven strong innings on Sunday for the farm club.
Cahill gave up two runs on five hits, while striking out four and walking three in the Aces’ 6-4 loss to the Memphis Redbirds.
Last week Cahill struggled in his outing for Reno — giving up six runs in less than five innings of work. He came back to Phoenix and made a few adjustments in a bullpen session.
Manager Kirk Gibson was impressed with the bullpen and after this outing Cahill may soon pitch for the D-backs for the first time since June.
Cahill went on the 15-day disabled list on July 1 with a right hip contusion.
In 17 starts he has 3-10 record with a 4.66 ERA.
