San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been officially ruled out of the team’s Week 5 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

Garoppolo missed the entire week of practice with a calf injury suffered last Sunday.

With Garoppolo sidelined, rookie quarterback Trey Lance will make his first NFL start.

Additionally, 49ers tight end George Kittle is doubtful with a calf injury.

As for the Cardinals, cornerback Byron Murphy missed practice for the third straight day with a ribs injury and is officially out. Offensive lineman Justin Murray was also ruled out and placed on the injured reserve with a back injury.

Additionally, rookie corner Marco Wilson, running back Chase Edmonds, tight end Maxx Williams, running back Eno Benjamin, right tackle Kelvin Beachum and cornerback Antonio Hamilton are questionable.
