After a dominating performance in the trenches against Stanford Friday night, Arizona State defensive lineman Tyler Johnson has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week.
The graduate student from Gilbert turned in his best performance of the year against the well-respected offensive line of Stanford.
Johnson was in the backfield majority of Friday night, tallying 3.5 tackles for loss, as well as two sacks of Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee. Johnson was also credited with a forced fumble, the third of his career.
Continuing his standout career at ASU, Johnson eclipsed 25 career tackles for loss on Friday night. The multi-sack game marked the third of his career in Tempe and he now just sits 4.5 sacks away from cracking the top-10 in program history.
Johnson’s play was critical to the Sun Devils’ overall defensive performance against the Cardinal. Stanford only amounted 13 yards rushing on 20 attempts and ASU’s defense had three turnovers.
On top of winning the conference’s award for defensive lineman of the week, Johnson was also named the Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week on defense. It marks the second time of his career he’s earned that honor.
