Report: Cardinals put Chandler Jones on COVID-19 list, activate TE Daniels

Oct 12, 2021, 1:40 PM | Updated: 1:55 pm

Arizona Cardinals pass-rusher Chandler Jones has been moved to the COVID-19 reserve list on Tuesday, reports ESPN’s Field Yates.

Jones leads the team with 5.0 sacks this year, all of which came in the season opener.

If Jones misses the road game against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, Arizona will lean more on outside backers Markus Golden, Devon Kennard and Dennis Gardeck.

The Cardinals officially announced Tuesday that they activated tight end Darrell Daniels from the reserve/COVID-19 list, while releasing cornerback Luq Barcoo and receiver Josh Doctson from the practice squad.

Daniels’ availability for a road game against the Cleveland Browns is timely after the Cardinals lost starting tight end Maxx Williams to a knee injury Sunday in a win against the San Francisco 49ers.

Williams reportedly suffered an injury serious enough to put his season in question. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury did not have an update on Williams’ status after practice on Monday.

Daniels, a backup, went on the COVID-19 reserve list last Wednesday.

His experience in Kingsbury’s offense makes him a likely candidate to take on many of Williams’ snaps — Williams has played 66% of Arizona’s snaps through five games.

Veteran Demetrius Harris (73 snaps) and Daniels (72 snaps) have been the second- and third-most used tight ends after Williams.

The 26-year-old Daniels has appeared in 25 games for Arizona since 2018.

Last season, he recorded eight catches on 11 targets for 92 yards and a touchdown.
