Phoenix Suns shooting guard Landry Shamet has not played in the regular season yet for the team, so that made it somewhat of a surprise that he was inked to a four-year contract extension on Monday.

Shamet spent a season in Philadelphia with Suns head coach Monty Williams, who said they had been trying to trade for Shamet for two years before finally landing him in late July.

That familiarity played a part in Phoenix trading for Shamet and also must have with locking him in long term before he could have hit restricted free agency next summer.

It sounds like he’s comfortable with that. Shamet said on Tuesday that he already feels right at home.

“One of the things I’ve been saying — It’s crazy, I’ve only been here for, what, if you look at a calendar I’ve been here like a month and a half? And I really like truly say I haven’t felt more right about an environment that I’ve been in,” he said. “Basketball wise, the people here, the way of life, where I live — it’s somewhere that just feels right.”

Shamet admitted to Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo that going through his first contract experience as an NBA player was nerve-wracking and a bit confusing but that it helped him learn more for the future of what to expect.

With the guard on his fourth team in four years, he also shared that it can bring on some doubt, but he now thinks he’s in the right place.

“It’s hard to describe all the way but that feeling of knowing where you are is a good place and you’re happy and content and comfortable there and you want to grow and develop there,” he said.
