Arizona State suffered a loss to Washington State, 34-21, on Saturday with running back Rachaad White on the sidelines with a right leg injury.
The ASU ground game suffered season lows without him finishing with 131 rushing yards and 32 rushing attempts on the game.
The Sun Devils leading rusher was sorely missed as each of his two replacements fumbled in the first half of the game.
“Rachaad was almost ready to go but he wasn’t 100% so we just felt like, you know what, were not gonna put him out there,” ASU head coach Herm Edwards said after the game.
White leads the team in rushing yards (477), attempts (86) and touchdowns (9) on the season.
“We had a chance up to game time, but then no. Warm ups we said, ‘no, that’s ok,'” Edwards said.
DeaMonte Trayanum handled most of the load with White out, finishing with 89 yards on 19 carries with one touchdown.
Trayanum and third-string running back Daniyel Ngata both fumbled in the game after completions from quarterback Jayden Daniels.
White was a much more active part of ASU’s passing game with 251 receiving yards on the season, good for fourth on the team.
Trayanum and Ngata entered the game with a combined 11 yards receiving.
