Students stormed the field at Arizona Stadium as the Wildcats defeated the California Golden Bears 10-3 Saturday afternoon.

The win was Arizona’s first in 763 days since Oct. 5, 2019. It snapped a 20-game losing streak, the longest in FBS.

This was also head coach Jedd Fisch’s first victory in charge, and his players were thrilled for him. Fisch received a Gatorade shower on the sideline as the clock hit 0:00, and he was awarded a game ball by the jubilant team in the locker room.

Redshirt junior wide receiver and captain Stanley Berryhill III handed him the ball and exclaimed, “This goes to coach Fisch, the best coach in the country. Thank you for never giving up on us.”

Fisch told the media after the win that his team danced and sung Bear Down loudly in the locker room, and that they deserved “every bit of it.”

The head coach also said it has been hard on the team being winless this long. He was not present for all 20 losses, but Arizona was 0-8 this season before Saturday.

The Wildcats won’t be close to .500 when the season ends, but through droves of injury adversity, Arizona lifted a weight off its shoulders.

That said, Fisch mentioned the win won’t affect how the team practices and prepares for next week’s game.

“Those guys know that’s behind us now, let’s go see how many more we can get,” Fisch said.

The Wildcats host the Utah Utes next week before visiting Washington State and ending the year against Arizona State for the Territorial Cup.
