The Arizona Cardinals are signing tight end Alex Ellis to their practice squad, according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero.

Ellis, 28, has 11 games of NFL experience under his belt for three teams. The most action he’s received came with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016. He started three games that year, played in six and caught three passes for 11 yards.

He had a greater role on special teams that season, playing 91 such snaps.

Ellis was most recently on the Las Vegas Raiders, who waived him on Aug. 31 under an injury designation.

The last game Ellis played was in Week 4 of the 2019 season for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was teammates with Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz.

However, he spent most of that season on injured reserve (knee).

The Cardinals have three tight ends on the active roster: Ertz, Darrell Daniels and David Wells. Demetrius Harris is on the reserve COVID-19 list.

Wells signed to the active roster last week, but he suffered a hand injury in Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers.

With the reported addition of Ellis, the Cardinals have 16 players on the practice squad, not including tight end Bernhard Seikovitz, who has a an international exception spot.
