Luka Doncic will miss Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns after the Dallas Mavericks star limped off the court Monday during a win against the Denver Nuggets, the team announced Tuesday.
Doncic suffered no significant damage to his ankle, reported The Athletic’s Shams Charania. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon added that Doncic is “likely to miss some time.”
With another game between the Suns and Mavs set for Friday, Doncic’s status remains unclear, but he did travel with the team, according to Dallas News’ Callie Caplan.
Both of the upcoming games tip off at 8 p.m. MST and will air on ESPN and 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
Doncic is averaging 24.9 points, 7.9 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game. He’s shooting 43% from the floor and 31% from three-point range for 9-4 Dallas.
Phoenix (10-3) enters the two-game set on a nine-game winning streak and just got center Deandre Ayton (leg contusion) back on Monday for a 99-96 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Ayton went No. 1 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, three picks before the Hawks took Doncic and traded him to the Mavs in a package that included Trae Young heading to Atlanta.
Wednesday marks the first look for the Suns against a Mavs team led by head coach Jason Kidd, who replaced Rick Carlisle this offseason.
If Doncic is not able to play, the firepower from Dallas will be led by second-leading scorer Kristaps Porzingis, who is averaging 19.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
