The Arizona Diamondbacks’ attempt at signing Japanese ace Masahiro Tanaka is over.
According to reports, Tanaka will sign a seven-year, $155 million dollar deal with the New York Yankees.
The Diamondbacks were one of the final five teams in the running for Tanaka.
The D-backs reportedly made a six-year offer worth about $120 million during a meeting with Tanaka.
The 25-year-old right-hander was 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 2013 with the Rakuten Golden Eagles.
The Yankees will also have to pay $20 million, as part of Major League Baseball’s new international posting rules.
