Oklahoma football is targeting the Arizona Cardinals’ Kliff Kingsbury for its recent head coaching job vacancy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
USC football is hiring Lincoln Riley to take over as its head coach, according to multiple reports Sunday.
Riley will leave OU and attempt to right the ship in Southern California.
Kingsbury previously coached in college before getting hired by Arizona. His previous job was as the head coach of Texas Tech for six seasons. He was let go by his alma mater but quickly rebounded with his first NFL head coaching job.
Kingsbury’s Cardinals are 9-2, the best record in the NFL in just his third season.
Despite getting fired after three straight losing seasons at Texas Tech, Kingsbury has become an attractive candidate for Oklahoma.
The Sooners have been one of the top scoring programs in the country, finishing top-six in points in the country four of the last five years. The program sees Kingsbury as someone who can keep that going.
Kingsbury has one season remaining on his current contract with the Cardinals, plus a team option for 2023.
