Arizona State running back DeaMonte “Chip” Trayanum has entered his name into the transfer portal, according to the Athletic’s Doug Haller.
Trayanum hits the portal after rushing for 402 yards on 78 carries in 2021. He found the end zone six times for the Sun Devils on their way to an 8-4 record on the year.
The sophomore missed a few games early in the season and returned to a crowded ASU backfield, which was highlighted by senior running back Rachaad White.
As White became the focal point of the Sun Devils’ offense toward the end of the season, the carries for Trayanum limited down the stretch.
In ASU’s last four games of the season, Trayanum totaled only 18 carries. On Oct. 30 against Washington State, he ran the ball 19 times.
As a recruit, Trayanum was a consensus 4-star prospect by all the major recruiting services and was amongst the top prospects in the state of Ohio in 2019.
With White turning pro and Trayanum hitting the portal, the other running backs on ASU’s roster include Daniyel Ngata, Deonce Elliot, Jackson He and George Hart III.
After testing the portal, Trayanum could ultimately return to ASU. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
