With the Chicago Bears playing host to the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday, the Bears are rolling out three players as captains for the game who all spent time in Arizona during their professional careers.

Chicago’s captains will be wide receiver Damiere Byrd, defensive tackle Angelo Blackson and safety Marqui Christian.

While all three spent time with the Cardinals, Christian was drafted by the organization No. 167 overall (5th Round) in the 2016 NFL Draft. However, his time in Arizona wouldn’t last long, as just months after signing his rookie deal, Christian was waived by the Cardinals.

Byrd spent 2019 in Arizona after signing a one-year deal, playing 11 games at receiver. He caught 32 receptions for 359 yards and caught one touchdown. Byrd would later sign with the New England Patriots after his deal with the Cardinals was done.

As for Blackson, he’s the most recent Cardinal in the trio of Bears’ captains this week. The defensive lineman spent the 2020 season with the team, playing in all 16 games, including nine starts. Blackson tallied 2.5 sacks and four tackles for loss.

The Bears have named rotating weekly captains throughout the season, but it’s fair to say these three were picked by head coach Matt Nagy for their previous ties to the Cardinals organization.

The Cardinals take on the Bears at 11 a.m. Sunday in Chicago. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station for all the action.
