Don’t touch the beard: Kliff Kingsbury not shaving until next Cardinals loss

TEMPE — You’ve probably noticed over the past few weeks that Kliff Kingsbury is sporting a little more scruff than what we’ve normally seen from the Arizona Cardinals head coach over the last couple of seasons.

Surprisingly, he didn’t forget to shave.

And no, it wasn’t to give him some added insulation in Chicago.

Did someone say, superstition?

Following the team’s loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 10, Kingsbury hasn’t touched his face with a razor, and for good reason.

Since that defeat, Arizona has gone 2-0, winning by double-digit marks on the road.

“If we’re winning, the beard’s not being shaved,” Kingsbury said Saturday. “As long as the streak keeps going, you’ll see me with a little bit more facial hair. … I would [let it grow out], whatever it takes to win. I have no pride when it comes to that.”

“Whatever it takes to keep it rocking,” Kingsbury added when asked if he would grow his beard out to a ZZ Top length.

As for the patented Kingsbury straw hat at practice, there’s not much behind that move other than UV protection.

“I just gotta keep my face covered, that’s about it,” Kingsbury said. “I wish I had a better story.

“I like the way it looks and the floppy one wasn’t getting it done so that’s really it. Most effective for keeping the sun out of my face.”
