The city of Glendale confirmed to KTAR News 92.3 FM that the Arizona Coyotes have paid off dues totaling $923,388 to their arena management company and are now current.

ASM Global, which manages the team’s home of Gila River Arena, notified the city on Monday it had received the payment to bring the Coyotes current through the end of the 2021 calendar year.

Glendale said in a statement it will allow the Coyotes to continue operating under its use agreement that expires on June 30, 2022, and that the Arizona Department of Revenue had removed a tax lien placed on the franchise on Dec. 3.

After Glendale threatened to lock the Coyotes out of their own arena at the start of December, the NHL team responded by paying the Arizona Department of Revenue more than $1.4 million for unpaid taxes owed. However, that $1.4 million did make the team current with ASM Global.

The Coyotes called the missed payments an “unfortunate human error” in a statement sent to ArizonaSports.com on Dec. 9.

“We have already launched an investigation to determine how this could have happened and initial indications are that it appears to be the result of an unfortunate human error,” the statement said. “Regardless, we deeply regret the inconvenience this has caused.

“We will make sure that by morning, the Arizona Coyotes are current on all of our bills and owe no state or local taxes whatsoever. And we will take immediate steps to ensure that nothing like this can ever possibly happen again.”
