Christmas came early for 100 kids in the Boys & Girls Club of the Valley thanks to Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum and the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation.
Beachum and Fitzgerald were helping shoppers on Monday when the foundation opened the doors of Going, Going, Gone at Dicks Sporting Goods in Tempe. The kids were allowed to go on a shopping spree, getting new gear and other Christmas gifts.
“We wanted this to be the last, big holiday shopping event of the year,” said Jill Johnson, senior director of business development for the Boys & Girls club. “When our Club kids saw Larry and Kelvin there, they couldn’t believe it. This was one of our best days, and these guys personally made it happen.”
Beachum, the Cardinals’ nominee for Walter Payton Man of the Year, brought his family to the event to spread some holiday cheer.
The offensive lineman has been involved in community programs that aim to end food insecurity, provide clean water, as well as education equity.
Fitzgerald has built a longstanding relationship with the Boys & Girls Club, being honored as the Champion for Kids last year by the club.
This year’s shopping spree was the largest held at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store, according to the press release.
