The Arizona State men’s basketball team announced late Monday that it has postponed games this week at UCLA and in Tempe against Arizona due to health and safety protocols within the Sun Devils’ program.

ASU was scheduled to face the Bruins at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday before hosting the Wildcats Saturday at 2 p.m. MST.

The Pac-12 is expected to work with the schools to reschedule the games.

Arizona State (5-8) had a busy week planned after not playing between a Dec. 19 home loss to San Francisco and a Sunday defeat at California. After that 74-50 loss to the Golden Bears, the Sun Devils were planning on traveling to face No. 5 UCLA — that game had already been postponed and rescheduled from this past Saturday due to the Bruins’ own COVID-19 complications.

Now, ASU will not play UCLA or the rival Wildcats this week.

The Sun Devils are off until Thursday, Jan. 13, when they will host the Utah Utes followed by the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Like ASU’s rivals, the Wildcats also had postponed games at UCLA and USC last week due to coronavirus issues within the Bruins and Trojans programs. With the time off, Arizona (12-1) played Monday in a rescheduled game against Washington and won 95-79.

Looking ahead, the Wildcats (12-1) host Colorado on Jan. 13 before Utah on Jan. 15.
