The Arizona Cardinals designated rookie safety James Wiggins to return from the injured reserve on Wednesday.

The team has 21 days to activate the rookie from the IR. He can start practicing immediately.

Wiggins was originally placed on the IR on Dec. 4 with a knee injury.

The 2021 seventh-round pick spent the first five weeks of the season on the practice squad before he was utilized in special teams in Weeks 6-8. He played 35 snaps (49%) over that three-game span.

After suffering a knee issue in Week 8, Wiggins was inactive over the next three contests before being placed on the IR.

Wiggins is the latest Cardinals player to move in a positive direction injury-wise in the past week.

Meanwhile, tight end Maxx Williams — who is out for the season with a knee injury sustained in Week 5 — was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Arizona activated linebacker Tanner Vallejo from the injured reserve, though he was placed on the COVID-19 list on Tuesday along with defensive lineman Zach Kerr.

There was some good news on the COVID-19 front, however, with the team getting back left tackle D.J. Humphries, cornerback Breon Borders and linebackers Markus Golden and Devon Kennard on Tuesday.

The Cardinals take on the Seahawks on Sunday at 2:25 p.m. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station for all the action.
