The Arizona Cardinals signed 15 players to future contracts as they begin their offseason, the team announced Wednesday.
The deals will officially kick in when the new league year begins on March 16.
Of the 15 signed, two are new to the team in running back Jaylen Samuels and tight end Deon Yelder.
Samuels joins Arizona after playing three games with the Houston Texans this past season. The running back rushed for nine yards on five carries and caught three of his four targets for 14 yards.
Before his time in Houston, Samuels shared the Pittsburgh Steelers backfield with Cardinals running back James Conner, who is a free agent this offseason, from 2018-2020.
The Steelers’ fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft rushed for 459 yards and a touchdown on 131 attempts while making 82 catches for 550 yards and four touchdowns in that three-year time span.
Yelder spent parts of 2021 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants. In five games with the Buccaneers, Yelder had one reception for no yards. He was on the field for 6% of the offensive snaps (14) and 18% of the special teams reps (14).
The tight end entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2018.
In three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs (26 games), Yelder recorded 10 receptions for 86 yards.
On Tuesday, the Cardinals signed punter Nolan Cooney to futures deal.
