The Arizona Coyotes have placed defenseman Dysin Mayo in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol, the team announced on Saturday.

Mayo joins forwards Antoine Roussel and Ryan Dzingel as the third Coyotes player to be placed in the league’s protocol in the last week.

The 25-year-old Mayo has five points on three goals and two assists in 34 games played in his rookie season for the Coyotes.

He also averages 20:50 minutes on the ice for Arizona while having served eight penalty minutes.

Fortunately for the Coyotes, head coach Andre Tourigny just got two of his better defenseman back earlier this week in Jakob Chychrun and Anton Strålman.

The 23-year-old Chychrun led all of the NHL in goals as a defenseman last year with 18.

Defenseman Kyle Capobianco was called on to play against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Saturday with Mayo on the shelf.

The Coyotes fell to the Rangers 7-3 despite having a two-goal lead in the first period.
