The Phoenix Suns added two important pieces in forward Torrey Craig and guard Aaron Holiday at the NBA trade deadline on Thursday in hopes of another run to the NBA Finals.
Holiday will likely battle with Elfrid Payton for the third point guard position off the bench behind Chris Paul and Cam Payne.
The newly acquired Suns guard did not hold back any admiration for Paul’s play. Holiday said he can not wait to learn from, in his mind, the greatest point guard of all time.
“Probably the best point guard to ever play the game,” Holiday said to reporters on Saturday. “Coming in, that is obviously someone I am going to sit back and learn from. It is a blessing honestly, I get to go to work with him every day and pretty much pick his brain.”
The guard said he thinks the Suns are a good fit for him as the team possesses very similar characteristics to his style of play.
He is expecting to come in and focus on three different aspects of the game: A high level of intensity on the defensive end, pushing the pace and getting his teammates open.
“I was excited, it is a great opportunity,” Holiday said. “The way they play here is so unselfish. They like to guard, I like to play defense as well. Just the way everybody is so connected. Everybody is having fun playing basketball and that’s something I want to be a part of.”
Holiday said he watched attentively as the Suns took on the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals as his brother, Jrue, is the starting point guard.
He said he is excited to join the best team in the NBA at 45-10 and hopes to only add to the chemistry from the beginning.
