Breaking away from Tuesday’s 4-1 contest, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies put together a quintessential Coors Field box score Wednesday, recording 34 total hits and 24 total runs.

After falling behind 8-5 in the seventh inning, the Diamondbacks scored 11 runs over the games final two frames to blow by the Rockies in what was ultimately a 16-8 rout.

Manager Kirk Gibson’s lineup produced up and down, with only newcomer David Peralta failing to get multiple hits among those in the starting lineup.

Josh Collmenter allowed four runs in the fifth inning after keeping the Rockies from crossing home plate in the first four innings. He was done after 81 pitches, and five innings, having given up nine hits, including five in the fifth — a frame in which he also allowed a walk.

The seventh inning also got away from Diamondbacks pitchers — allowing four runs there, as well — but the offense more than made up for it.

Cody Ross saw his batting average dip yet again Wednesday, after flying out in a pinch-hit at-bat.

Diamondbacks starting shortstop Didi Gregorius hit a leadoff homer to open up the offensive-heavy contest. It was his first major league at-bat in the northern hemisphere, after playing for the Diamondbacks once in Australia. Gregorius was 3-for-6 with three runs scored in the contest.

All eight of the Rockies runs Wednesday came in two innings — the fifth and the seventh. They had four spots in both frames, using a costly error on a Chris Owings throw to second base to plate two.

The Diamondbacks have now won three of their last four series and seven of their last 10. They’ll look to sweep the Rockies on Thursday with Bronson Arroyo on the mound.

Though recording a season-high-tying 21 hits in the contest, the Diamondbacks strung together 16 runs with just four extra-base hits and 17 singles.

The Diamondbacks had five players record three hits Wednesday, setting a new franchise record. It was the top five hitters in the order who helped accomplish the feat. Gregorius, Parra, Goldschmidt, Prado and Montero made up the group.

It would be hard to really pinpoint an offensive leader in the Diamondbacks’ slugfest at Coors Field Wednesday, but Montero’s career-high six RBI and three-run home run may give him an edge. Goldschmidt also had four RBI, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a walk.

The Diamondbacks are 7-1 in games Collmenter has started since April 25.

All nine spots of the Diamondbacks’ batting order recorded a hit, with only starting pitcher Josh Collmenter going without a hit among those in the starting lineup.

Owings’ seventh-inning error gave him a tie with Martin Prado for the lead on the Diamondbacks with 10 on the season.

The Diamondbacks had 27 batters reach base Wednesday. They did so with 16 hits, four walks, Prado was hit by a pitch and the Rockies had an error. In their 18-7 rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers last month they put on 27 as well.
