While Jackson He submitted his name into the transfer portal, the running back has exhausted his college eligibility and cannot play college football for another school, according to an ASU spokesperson. He spent his college time at the University of Jamestown in 2016-17 before landing at Arizona State, where he joined the team from 2019-21.
Arizona State Sun Devils running back Jackson He entered the transfer portal Thursday.
Though the walk-on running back did not record a carry last season, he made national headlines in the team’s 70-7 Territorial Cup victory over the Arizona Wildcats in 2020.
Scoring the 10th and final touchdown of the night for ASU, He became the first known Chinese-born player to score a touchdown and record a carry in FBS history.
“I’m the first one, but I’m not the last one,” He told reporters after the win. “There’s going to be more Chinese stepping on this stage and scoring.”
The Shaoguan, China, native moved to the United States in 2014 for high school. He eventually walked on at ASU in 2019 after sending game tape to running backs coach Shaun Aguano.
In his one game of action, He recorded seven yards and a touchdown on four carries.
He is the latest Sun Devil with plans of transferring elsewhere.
Last Thursday, starting quarterback Jayden Daniels entered the transfer portal despite the signal caller posting a video announcing his return to the Sun Devils.
The move came as surprise to head coach Herm Edwards, who had met with Daniels and his mother about the signal caller’s future following last season.
“Anyone that decides to leave this program for whatever reason, they have the ability to do that now with the portal,” Edwards told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Tuesday. “I’ve said this and I did this in pro football as well. When you have minicamp sometimes and the veterans don’t show up ’cause of the contracts or whatever, you don’t talk about the guys that aren’t here.
“You just talk about the players that are here. That’s just my mindset. … That’s just only fair to the players who are here working every day.”
