341-pound Georgia DL Jordan Davis flies during 40-yard dash at Combine

Mar 5, 2022, 8:00 PM

Jordan Davis is a 6-foot-6, 341-pound nose tackle from the University of Georgia, yet his speed is what made headlines at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday.

Davis lined up for the 40-yard dash, where he shot off the line with the burst of a running back.

He crossed the finish line with an unofficial time of 4.82 seconds. His official time was 4.78 ticks, the fastest by anyone over 310 pounds since at least 2003, per NFL Media.

Davis’ 10-yard split was faster than five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry’s by 0.05 seconds, according to NFL Research.

He did not stop there, as Davis’ broad jump measured a ridiculous 10 feet, three inches.

His vertical was 32 inches, which is more closely comparable to wide receivers than defensive linemen.

Needless to say, his feats caused a reaction online:

Davis was a All-SEC First Team member for 2021 and a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, which awards the best defensive player of the year.

He had 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks in 2021 along with 14 quarterback hits.

Davis collected a tackle for loss and two quarterback hits in Georgia’s National Championship Game victory over Alabama.

The Arizona Cardinals have the No. 23 pick in the first round this year, while Davis is widely projected as a mid-to-late first-round pick. Although, his stock could rise after Saturday.

The Cardinals have needs on both sides of the ball, and bolstering the defensive line is one of them.

Arizona has J.J. Watt under contract for one more season. The Cardinals have a young group of defensive linemen around him with Zach Allen, Leki Fotu and Rashard Lawrence.

Stopping the run was a consistent issue during the 2021 season, especially with Watt off the field, and that is where Davis brings the most polish, The Ringer evaluated.

Davis has the combination of size, athleticism, and power that you just can’t teach―and some team is going to take a chance on his upside as a pass rusher. His floor is as a dominant run defender.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid brought up a play Davis made last season that translates his raw speed to game film:

This is not normal for a nose tackle.
