State of NFC West QBs after Seattle Seahawks trade away Russell Wilson

Mar 8, 2022, 1:01 PM | Updated: 3:12 pm

The Seattle Seahawks made waves Tuesday, agreeing to trade quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for multiple first-round draft picks, players and additional draft capital, per multiple reports.

The deal reportedly will net the Broncos Wilson and a fourth-round draft pick in exchange for a pair each of first-round and second-round picks as well as a fifth-rounder. The Seahawks will also receive quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant and defensive lineman Shelby Harris in the deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

With the NFC West landscape taking quite the turn early on this offseason, here’s a look at the current state of Cardinals’ divisional opponents following the Wilson trade:

Seattle Seahawks

2021 record: 7-10

Among the trade haul, the Seahawks received Broncos signal caller Drew Lock.

In six games last season, Lock completed 60.4% of his passes for 787 yards and two touchdowns to two interceptions. He went 0-3 in his three starts. He also added 10 carries for 53 yards and two scores on the ground.

Seattle also has Jacob Eason, whom the team claimed off waivers in October, under contract through 2023. In one game with the Indianapolis Colts, Eason completed two of his five attempts for 25 yards and a pick.

The Seahawks will likely turn to the draft or free agency to add another signal caller.

San Francisco 49ers

2021 record: 10-7

While there has been talk that the 49ers will move on from Jimmy Garoppolo, the QB is still in the red and gold as of Tuesday.

The signal caller, who helped take the 49ers to Super Bowl LIV, completed 68.3% of his passes for 3,810 yards and 20 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. He chipped in 51 yards and three scores on 38 carries.

San Francisco also has Trey Lance waiting in the wings for when Garoppolo’s days in the bay are over.

Lance was used sparingly in his first NFL season, completing 57.7% of his passes for 603 yards and five touchdowns to two picks. He also showed off his ability as a runner, putting up 168 yards and a score on 38 carries.

In his first NFL start, Lance went 15 of 29 for 192 yards and an interception in a 17-10 loss to the Cardinals in Week 5. He added 89 yards on 16 carries.

Los Angeles Rams

2021 record: 12-5

The Rams may very well have the most stable quarterback situation this offseason among the teams listed with Matthew Stafford under contract through 2023 and the unquestioned starter in L.A.

In his first season with the Rams, Stafford completed 67.2% of his throws for 4,886 yards and 41 touchdowns to 17 interceptions as he helped lead Los Angeles to a Super Bowl victory.

Behind Stafford sits Bryce Perkins. Los Angeles also has an exclusive rights free agent in John Wolford.
