Another day, another Arizona Cardinals tight end sticking around.

Tight end Maxx Williams has agreed on a one-year deal to remain with the Cardinals.

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro first reported the move Wednesday.

The Williams signing further solidifies the team’s tight end spot, with Arizona also locking up tight end Zach Ertz to a three-year deal worth a reported $31.65 million with $17.5 million guaranteed.

Williams was a key piece of the Cardinals offense as a run-blocker who had expanded his role in the passing offense before a season-ending knee injury in Week 5.

He made 16 catches on 17 targets for 193 yards and one touchdown through the first five games before his injury.

Williams joined the Cardinals in 2019 in his first season away from the Baltimore Ravens and earned a midseason contract extension in his first year with the team. That two-year deal expires when the new league year kicks in Wednesday.

Arizona’s first day of free agency saw the football club retain some key free agents on the offensive side of the ball, including Ertz, Williams, backup quarterback Colt McCoy, starting running back James Conner and starting offensive guard Justin Pugh.

The Cardinals lost a handful of key contributors to free agency, however, notably wide receiver Christian Kirk (Jacksonville), linebacker Chandler Jones (Las Vegas) and running back Chase Edmonds (Miami).
