Coyotes claim goalie Harri Sateri off waivers

The Arizona Coyotes on Monday plugged the hole at goaltender caused by their trade of Scott Wedgewood, signing Harri Sateri off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Finnish product on Monday signed a one-year deal with the Maple Leafs but needed to clear waivers before joining the team.

This season, Sateri played 38 games with Sabir Novosibirsk of the KHL. He went 14-16-5 with a 2.02 goals against average and .926 save percentage.

The goalie went 5-0-0 for gold-medal-winning Finland in the 2022 Winter Olympics with a .962 save percentage.

Sateri has nine games of NHL experience. He appeared for 493 minutes on ice for the Florida Panthers in 2017-18, posting a 2.92 goals against average and .911 save percentage.

Sateri was a fourth-round pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2008.

Arizona now can slot Sateri in with rookie Karel Vejmelka after trading Wedgewood to the Dallas Stars for a fourth-round NHL Draft pick on Sunday.

Wedgewood made 23 starts for the Coyotes this season and led the team in save percentage (.911) and goals against average (3.06).

Vejmelka’s 33 starts combine with Wedgewood’s 23 to make up for the majority of Arizona’s goalie rotation this year.
