Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Luke Weaver reportedly settled with the team on a $2.9 million contract in 2022, avoiding arbitration, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.

Catcher Carson Kelly and first baseman Christian Walker received tenders and could end up in arbitration if they didn’t reach agreements with Arizona before the 10 a.m. MST Tuesday arbitration deadline for players in their third-to-sixth years as pros.

Weaver enters his seventh MLB season and fourth with the D-backs.

After producing his best major league year in 2019 with Arizona, injuries and inconsistency have hit for the right-hander.

Weaver posted a 6.58 ERA in 12 starts during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign and in 2021 held a 4.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 13 games.

A shoulder strain put him on the 60-day injured list in May before he was activated in September, where he made five starts to close the season.

The 28-year-old is projected this coming season to land a rotation spot for the Diamondbacks behind Zac Gallen, Madison Bumgarner and Merrill Kelly.

Arizona’s fifth rotation spot remains open with KBO League addition Dan Straily part of that competition. Zach Davies, who reportedly will join the D-backs, also joins the competition as manager Torey Lovullo lines up his starting arms.
