The Phoenix Mercury signed former Arizona Wildcats forward Sam Thomas to a training camp deal on Tuesday.
“Couldn’t leave (Arizona),” Thomas said in an announcement on Twitter. “Super excited for this opportunity.”
Thomas was not selected in the 2022 WNBA Draft on Monday night.
The 6-foot forward averaged 8.7 points, 2.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 30 minutes per contest as a fifth-year senior.
Her best season came in 2017-18, averaging 10.2 points, 1.3 assists and seven rebounds over 36 minutes per game.
The news of the signing comes after Phoenix added a pair of forwards in the third round of Monday’s draft.
With the team’s first pick in the third round (No. 26 overall), the Mercury took forward Maya Dodson out of Notre Dame.
Six picks later, Phoenix nabbed forward Macee Williams out of IUPUI at No. 32 overall.
Thomas now looks to latch onto a Mercury team that includes Diana Taurasi and Skyler Diggins-Smith. Phoenix also added newcomers Tina Charles and Diamond DeShields this offseason.
