A report surfaced Tuesday that the Arizona Diamondbacks plan to bring back manager Kirk Gibson next season.
Gibson said he hasn’t been a part of any discussions with team management, but he hopes there’s something to that report.
“I hope it’s true. I’d be honored to come back,” Gibson told Burns and Gambo Tuesday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.
“We’ve got these remaining days of August to get through, and September’s a whole other thing, who do we bring up for that… and when the organization feels it’s time to proceed beyond that, they’ll let us know and then we’ll take care of it.”
The D-backs’ 2014 season obviously hasn’t gone as well as fans hoped it would, but Gibson said he’s optimistic about the future of the team and the progress that young players such as shortstop Didi Gregorius and third baseman Jake Lamb have made.
“There’s a lot of good things going on around here, and though the season is disappointing, we remain energized and pushing forward, and I hope I’m a part of that,” he said.
