The Arizona Cardinals re-signed wide receiver A.J. Green to a one-year contract on Thursday.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Green returns as the team’s likely No. 2 option after recording 54 catches on 92 targets for 848 yards and three touchdowns. He accounted for 37 first downs and a pair of 100-yard games in 2021.
His numbers opposite DeAndre Hopkins were respectable last year, but Green was unable to take it to the next level in the back half of the season when the No. 1 wideout was on the shelf due to injury.
Over his first seven games with the franchise, Green amassed 24 catches on 35 targets for 406 yards and three scores.
But a lackluster showing against the Green Bay Packers — ending with Green not turning around in the end zone for the potential game-winning score — leaked over into the latter half of the season. Green was held scoreless and posted six games with less than 75 receiving yards.
The team as whole was off kilter, however, thanks to injuries on both sides of the football, dropping six of its last 10 regular season games before a 34-11 NFC Wild Card loss to the Los Angeles Rams made for a quick postseason exit.
With Christian Kirk signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, Arizona’s wide receivers room now features Hopkins, Green, Rondale Moore, Antoine Wesley, Greg Dortch, Andre Baccellia and Andy Isabella.
Isabella, however, has been granted permission to seek a trade this offseason following a one-catch, 13-yard season.
