No offense. That is what the first week of the season has shown us about the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After Sunday’s 5-0 loss to the New York Mets, the highest qualified batting average on the team is .212, from Ketel Marte.

Although, youngster Seth Beer has been impressive with his opportunities.

Following his walk-off heroics on Opening Day, Beer has a .381 batting average and some of the best offensive numbers on the team.

Granted it’s a small sample size, because Arizona manager Torey Lovullo has decided not to put Beer in the lineup on days when the team faces a left-handed starter. That has cut his playing time significantly.

It makes sense that the team is easing Beer into playing time, with him only playing a handful of games at the major league level. It’s not like he’s an everyday designated hitter, which is something you don’t see in the league much anymore.

However, with a team-wide batting average of .152 (worst in MLB) why not try giving Beer more opportunities to shine?

When someone is on fire, don’t get in his way.

As Steve Zinsmeister and Cody Fincher discuss this week on The Ain’t No Fang Podcast, the Diamondbacks need more Beer, not less.
