Arizona Coyotes chief hockey development officer and former team captain Shane Doan was named general manager of Canada’s Men’s National Team for the 2022 Indoor Ice Hockey Federation World Championship on Monday.
Coyotes first-year head coach André Tourigny will serve as an assistant coach under Claude Julien.
Doan, from Alberta, worked as general manager for Team Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games and assistant GM at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, of which Canada won the gold medal.
He has held his current role with the Coyotes since January 2021 after playing 21 seasons with the organization — one of which was for the Winnipeg Jets before they moved to the Valley and rebranded.
Tourigny, from Quebec, is in his first season as head coach of the Coyotes and led Canada’s National Junior Team to a silver medal at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.
The competition in Finland begins May 13 and lasts until May 29. NHL players are eligible to play, unlike the Olympics, although the tournament takes place during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
