Report: Suns’ Devin Booker could miss 2-3 weeks with hamstring strain

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker could miss 2-3 weeks with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported Thursday.

The guard suffered the injury late in the third quarter in the Suns’ Game 2 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. He did not play the fourth quarter.

Booker was coming off a 31-point first-half outburst before straining his hamstring.

The following morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that it appeared unlikely Booker would play in Games 3 and 4.

Windhorst adds that the Pelicans are preparing as if Booker will return to action sooner than the timetable.

With Booker out for Friday’s contest, the Suns could turn to guard Landry Shamet for added minutes.

Across 12 minutes in Game 2, Shamet added five points on 2-of-3 shooting.

Forward Cam Johnson is another option for the Suns if they want to go with a bigger lineup of Chris Paul, Mikal Bridges, Johnson, Jae Crowder and Deandre Ayton.

Johnson played 26 minutes off the bench in Game 2, scoring 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting overall. Johnson was off his mark from long range, however, making just one of his six attempts on the evening.

The Suns and Pelicans face off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station for all the action.
