Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and wide receiver Marquise Brown are a new 1-2 punch in the Valley. Literally.

Brown, whom the Cardinals acquired during the first round of the NFL Draft last Thursday, will wear the No. 2 with his new team.

The 24-year-old wideout wore No. 5 with the Baltimore Ravens last season, but that digit is held by veteran kicker Matt Prater. Brown was No. 5 with Oklahoma, as well, when he and Murray were teammates. Murray has kept his No. 1 from high school to the pros.

Brown wore No. 15 during his first two years in the league, since receivers could not put on single-digit jersey numbers yet.

The most recent Cardinals player to wear No. 2 was running back Chase Edmonds last year, who changed from No. 29. Before Edmonds was kicker Mike Nugent and punter Andy Lee, who remains on the team and has worn three different numbers with Arizona.

Many Cardinals players jumped at the chance to switch their numbers last year when the league’s restrictions lifted.

Safety Budda Baker went from No. 32 to No. 3. Linebacker Isaiah Simmons ditched No. 48, which he called ugly, for No. 9.

The spotlight on Brown has brightened this week, as wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was given a six-game suspension by the league for violating the performance-enhancing drugs policy.

The double teams that would have gone his way early in the season will focused elsewhere.

Brown and Murray led the No. 1 scoring offense in the country in 2018 with the Sooners. The Cardinals could use some more fireworks, especially early on.
