D-backs’ Carson Kelly scratched from start vs. Rockies
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Carson Kelly was scratched from Friday’s matchup against the Colorado Rockies.
AZCentral’s Nick Piecoro reports that Kelly was scratched due to a left abdominal strain.
Jose Herrera will start in his place.
Kelly has had a slow start to the season, batting .105 in 57 at-bats, hitting one RBI and striking out 20 times.
Herrera has had similar luck at the plate. The 25-year-old is batting .087 in addition to five walks and eight strikeouts in 23 at-bats this year.
Despite the drought from the catchers, the D-backs have found their stride as of late.
The team has won seven of its last 10 games, including taking two out of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers and a sweep of the Miami Marlins.
The D-backs have reached a .500 win percentage for the second time all year but still rank last in the NL West despite the recent success.
Arizona looks to gain ground on a division rival and starts a three-game home series against Colorado. Tune to ESPN 620 AM or 98.7 FM HD-2 for all the action.
