The Arizona Cardinals made a blockbuster deal on Draft Day, trading their first-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens to land wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown.

As a result, the Cardinals’ next pick in the draft would be all more important, becoming the first player that would be in Arizona’s rookie class.

With the No. 55 overall pick, the Cardinals would use the selection on Colorado State tight end Trey McBride. For the tight end, he couldn’t be more jacked up to land in the Valley.

“I looked down and I see Arizona calling and it’s just a dream come true,” McBride said meeting with media for the first time on Thursday. “This is exactly where I wanted to be.”

The tight end spent the pre-draft process training in Arizona, falling in love with the ‘vibe’ of the state. He said had he not been drafted by the Cardinals, the state is a place he wanted to continue coming back to.

Finally getting to wear the red for the first time, McBride is happy to finally be in the building.

“I could get used to this red,” he said. “I love it, looks great. I’m grateful for coach to give me an opportunity … so grateful to be a Cardinal.”

Now a member of the Cardinals, McBride joins a well-polished tight end’s room that features Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams.

He said he’s yet to meet either, but Williams reached out. As for McBride, he said he’s excited to meet both and is going to learn everything he can from Ertz.

“He’s a tight end who’s played in this league for a long time, and most of all he’s been around and knows how to do it the right way,” the rookie said of the veteran Ertz.

“I’m excited to pick his brain a little bit and just kind of be a sponge. I want to soak everything in that I can from him, and not only him but other guys on the team.”

McBride anticipates doing whatever it takes to get on the field, whether it’s on special teams or being a primary blocker in the offense.

He said despite racking up 1,000 yards receiving his last year at Colorado State, McBride blocked on nearly 70% of their offensive plays and says it’s something he loves to do.

The rookie thinks he can be used to help disguise the Cardinals’ offense when off the field due to his prowess as a blocker.

Regardless of how McBride fits into Arizona’s offense, the Cardinals are getting a player who couldn’t be happier to be where he landed.

“I’ve always wanted to play in this league and this (being drafted) has been the highlight of my life,” he said. “I’m a high-energy guy. I love this game, this game has given a lot to me.”
