The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Sunday the team has reinstated right-handed pitcher Sean Poppen from the injured list and optioned infielder Seth Beer to Triple-A Reno.
Poppen had pitched well for Arizona in five appearances, posting a 1.50 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over six innings pitched.
Beer was one of the only players in the early part of the season who was getting on the basepath. He even hit a walk-off home run against the San Diego Padres on National Beer Day.
Although, when the team started to win games, Beer fell into a slump. On May, 11 he broke an 0-36 streak from the plate with a single.
His batting average sits at .210, struck out 24 times and hit the one Opening Day home run.
Beer primarily played first base or hit as the designated hitter. With the arrival of Alek Thomas and the returns from injury from Pavin Smith and Jordan Luplow, Beer’s slump came at an inopportune time.
The D-backs currently sit at 18-16, three games back in the standings.
Yet in the competitive NL West, the team is in fourth place.
Arizona looks to take the rubber match from the Chicago Cubs at 1:10 p.m. Catch all the action on ESPN 620 AM or 98.7 FM HD-2.
