Arizona State softball (39-9, 20-4) took home its first regular-season Pac-12 title since 2011 after clinching the series against No. 10 Washington 5-2 on Saturday.
After dropping the first game in the series, ASU rallied to win Friday and Saturday’s games.
This is the Sun Devils’ third-ever Pac-12 Championship after winning their first in 2008.
“We were all tired today,” Coach Trisha Ford said in a press release. “Yesterday was emotional. It was a tough game and we gave up the lead late and battled back. Today, it was going to come down to which team had more fight and wanted it more. Our team decided today was going to be their day.”
“I think this team is special,” she added. “They are very close on and off the field and play for each other. When you have that mixture, they feed off of each other.”
Ford was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year with the best record in the conference. The team is currently ranked No. 4 nationally.
ASU received the No. 8 seed nationally during the NCAA selection show and is matched up against Cal State Fullerton.
