The Arizona Diamondbacks made a handful of moves ahead of their matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.
The team recalled infielder Yonny Hernandez and right-hander Jacob Webb from the taxi squad and righty Luis Frias from Triple-A Reno.
Additionally, Arizona placed outfielder Cooper Hummel and lefty Kyle Nelson on the injured list. The reasoning behind the move to the IL was not disclosed.
The D-backs also optioned right-handed hurler Edwin Uceta to Reno.
In 32 games played this season (99 plate appearances), Hummel is averaging .190 but sports a .658 OPS. He’s registered 16 hits and eight RBIs to go along with 15 walks and nine runs scored. He’s struck out 30 times.
Hernandez returns to the mix after seeing nine games with the team earlier in the season.
Over that span, the infielder averaged .125 with a .347 OPS. He recorded two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Nelson heads to the IL after pitching 0.2 innings in Game 1 of the team’s doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. Nelson gave up a hit and recorded a strikeout in the 7-6 loss.
Uceta saw one game in his latest stint with the MLB team, throwing three innings in the team’s 12-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of the doubleheader on Tuesday. He allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks. The pitcher also recorded a pair of strikeouts.
