The Arizona Diamondbacks placed catcher Jose Herrera on the injured list on Thursday.

The reasoning behind the move was not disclosed.

Additionally, the team selected catcher Grayson Greiner from Triple-A Reno.

Over 18 games played this season (46 plate appearances), Herrera is averaging .125 with an OPS of .372. He’s registered five hits, two RBIs, three runs scored and five walks. Herrera has also struck out 13 times.

Greiner heads up to the MLB club after seeing 10 games with the Aces this season. Over 42 plate appearances, Greiner is averaging .351 with a OPS of .942. He’s recorded 13 hits, five RBIs, four runs scored and five walks at the Triple-A level.

Before joining the D-backs, Greiner spent four seasons with the Detroit Tigers from 2018-2021.

Herrera is the latest D-backs player to be placed on the injured list without any designation.

On Wednesday, Arizona placed outfielder Cooper Hummel and lefty Kyle Nelson on the IL. The D-backs also recalled infielder Yonny Hernandez and right-hander Jacob Webb from the taxi squad and righty Luis Frias from Triple-A Reno. Additionally, pitcher Edwin Uceta was optioned to Reno.

The D-backs are back in action Thursday against the Chicago Cubs. First pitch is slated for 4:40 p.m. Tune to ESPN 620 AM and 98.7 FM HD-2.
