PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte got a hit in his 12th straight game on Monday, tying his career high.
The hit came on a check swing off of Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider in the first inning that trickled toward the third base bag. Atlanta, like many other teams against Marte, were shifted toward shallow right field.
His previous high was set in September 2015 when he batted .396 over 48 at-bats in 12 games.
Entering the series with the Braves, Marte was batting .364 with 16 hits in 44 at-bats, five RBIs and one walk during the streak.
Marte has reached an 11-game hit streak three other times in his career, twice in 2021 and once in 2019.
He is starting to find his All-Star stride with this streak, batting .250 with two home runs and 14 RBIs on the season.
Marte signed a five-year, $76 million contract in the offseason to stay in Arizona through 2027 with a team option for 2028.
In 2021, the second baseman/center fielder batted .318 with 14 home runs and 50 RBIs in only 90 games after missing time due to two separate hamstring injuries as well as a hip injury.
