The Arizona State men’s golf team reached new heights Tuesday afternoon as it knocked off No. 2 Oklahoma, 3-2, in a match that came down to the wire.

Before the match, Oklahoma redshirt senior Chris Gotterup was given the Haskins Award for the player of the year in men’s golf for the 2022 season.

However, not even the player of the year could bring down the Sun Devils as freshman Preston Summerhays took care Gotterup in just 13 holes.

ASU graduate student Mason Andersen got the second point on the 18th hole in a riveting back-and-forth match with Oklahoma’s Patrick Welch.

Sun Devils senior Cameron Sisk played 19 intense holes before finally sinking the match-winning birdie that put the Sooners away for good, ending the No. 1 ranked team in the country’s season.

With the win, the Sun Devils now advance to play Pepperdine in a high-stakes semifinal round.

Pepperdine in their own regard upset No. 3 seeded North Carolina, 3-2.

The semifinal teed off Tuesday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. MST.
