Right-handed reliever Taylor Widener was called up from the Arizona Diamondbacks’ taxi squad on Friday.

Arizona additionally optioned lefty Paul Fry to Triple-A Reno but kept him on the taxi squad, then reinstated righty Keynan Middleton from the 15-day injured list, sending him to Reno.

Widener made three appearances for the Diamondbacks in April this year before being optioned. He allowed two earned runs and five hits in 3.0 innings pitched.

The 27-year-old posted a 4.35 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 70.1 innings pitched with the MLB club last season.

Fry, a trade acquisition from the Baltimore Orioles in mid-May, joined Arizona for the first time and allowed one earned run, two hits and two walks in one inning of work during a 6-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.

Middleton has six appearances for the D-backs this season.

Over 4.2 innings, he has five strikeouts and has allowed two hits — both home runs in his debut for the D-backs this year on May 1. Since the rocky 2022 debut, he pitched 4.0 hitless frames — only allowing one base-runner via a walk — before elbow inflammation put him on the injured list on May 17.

The Diamondbacks begin a 10-game road trip on Friday with a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tune to ESPN 620 AM or 98.7 FM HD-2 for the first pitch at 4:05 p.m.
